Localism bill

As some of you will recall we mentioned some possible changes to the Tenancy Deposit Protection legislation. These TDP changes do not however, appear to have survived the committee stage of the bill. This is not to say that they will not get back in later but it is of some concern that what we considered to be improvements has been overlooked.

I’m delighted because – as I posted previously – I consider the improvements to be outweighed by the more stringent application of the 14 days rule and – more importantly – because if the Govt. amends it now they are far less likely to replace the whole mess with a far better tenant-paid bond certificate scheme.

Now, perhaps, they will investigate real reform rather than silly tinkering.
